How did you meet and how did the proposal happen?
We met through mutual friends on a fun night out in winter wonderland. We knew pretty quickly we were meant for each other and didn’t hang around on making things serious! The proposal was in Mallorca where we both frequently visit and love going together. It always has a special place in my heart and the proposal cemented these feelings. We are already planning to go back to the proposal spot in the next few months.
What did you love most about Pennyhill Park?
We always knew we wanted to have a look at Pennyhill as a potential wedding venue after visiting the spa a couple of times. On our viewing Maddy absolutely blew us away with her ideas, thoughts and knowledge. The outdoor ceremony space and lily pond terrace really sold the venue to us and we could picture our perfect day there straight away! The newly refurbished wedding breakfast suite fit our ‘look’ so well with the beautiful soft tones and calming feel. From further discussions with the team, we managed to create our bespoke table plan in the space and couldn’t imagine our wedding being anywhere else.
On the day, we found the food was spectacular and a real highlight for our us and our guests. Being able to have a conversation with the head chef and really personalise our menu made it feel very special. The drinks were plentiful and the food was delicious! Two key areas we wanted to put a lot of thought and effort into.
Everyone we encountered through the planning process was so helpful and nothing was too much of an ask! The team at Pennyhill have such passion for what they do and were another key factor in us choosing the venue. It was so difficult for us to pin point our one favourite thing about Pennyhill Park!
Did you have a theme or style in mind for your big day?
Our wedding was black tie with an elegant, timeless feel. We felt that Pennyhill fit our theme so perfectly and really complimented the two of us on the day. We wanted to spend extra time working on the finer details such as the glassware, the menu and music choices such as bringing in a quartet; all to complete our feel for the day. All of these extra details bought our vision to life and we are so pleased we spent time going through our thoughts with Maddy. No ideas were out of question and the Pennyhill team really helped us make those important decisions that ultimately made our day.
Tell us about the outfits.
Harry wore a black-tie tuxedo with a white jacket further highlighting the timeless theme. I wore a full, fitted, classic dress with detachable spaghetti straps and a long cathedral veil. All our guests really showed up for us in their most elegant dresses and tuxedos and all looked completely perfect!
What do you remember most about the day?
We both remembered the overwhelming feeling of love on the day. Love for each other and love from our guests. We both wanted to make a real effort to not leave each others side however no effort was needed. We spent the whole day beaming, kissing, drinking champagne and sharing a couple of tears! We have never felt so happy and that was all thanks to Pennyhill Park.
I know we both found the ceremony the most magical part of the day and the moment we talk about most frequently. From my pre-ceremony pep talk from Maddy about wearing my veil, to first emotional looks on the aisle. We will never be able to forget those moments.
Were there any special moments or surprises?
We worked with Gemma Mcgrath on our table scaping and overall look for the wedding. This was a great experience and really made the day feel so personal! We spent a lot of time deciding on florals, the lighting and even the plates to ensure the day reflected the two of us.
We also worked with the head chef to include little menu touches that we had always wanted to incorporate into our day. On our first meeting at Pennyhill, I mentioned how I have always wanted a rose champagne sorbet and this was quickly worked on! Additionally, Harry’s childhood Bradfield mess was another request Pennyhill managed to pull off so perfectly.
What tips or advice would you give to future couples?
Throughout the whole day, we really wanted our guests to feel special and a big part of our story. I tried to incorporate as many personal touches we could while still sticking to our theme. Our guests appreciated these touches and felt like they were a part of our journey. We took time to think about what would mean the most to us and spent our time and energy on these aspects.
