Night One: The Manor House, Castle Combe
Your Austen adventure begins in a manor fit for one of her novels...
Start your Austen adventure by spending a magical night at The Manor House, a quintessential English manor steeped in charm in one of the most iconic Cotswolds villages, Castle Combe. Wake to a delectable breakfast and set off to explore the nearby Jane Austen Centre in Bath, where Jane spent six creative years of her life. Bath’s Georgian architecture and rich literary history offer the perfect backdrop for your Austen pilgrimage – especially as the world honours her 250th birthday in 2025.
Next Stop: The Heart of Hampshire
Follow in Jane Austen's journey
After your Cotswolds retreat and day out in Bath learning more about Jane Austen, take a scenic drive to our home in the Hampshire countryside just outside Winchester. Quite literally following in Austen's footsteps, this is where she came to rest.
Night Two: Lainston House, Winchester
Head to where Jane was both born and died
After a day exploring Bath, it's time for chapter two with a night at the breathtaking Lainston House, a 17th-century manor nestled in the Hampshire countryside. Enjoy a sumptuous breakfast before heading into the historic Winchester Cathedral, where you'll find Jane Austen's final resting place. Lainston House is perfectly placed for exploring Austen’s world in Hampshire, just 20 minutes from Chawton, where Jane penned four of her novels, 25 minutes from Steventon where Austen was born, and only 15 minutes from Winchester’s vibrant city centre.
